Crossing to Safety

Meeting: May 14, 2009
Book: Crossing to Safety, Wallace Stegner
Location: Zoe’s Kitchen, Cambridge, MA

Present: Anne, Beth, Cynthia, Donna, Manda, Rachel (notes), and Wendy
Absent: Paula (sister’s wedding, I guess that is a good excuse)

Pre-book discussion:
  • Manda’s in IT?!?: Manda talked about her new life in IT (same job, different department)
  • Donna’s trip to Switzerland: Donna made us all jealous as she talked about her trip to Switzerland, day trip to France, and other adventures.
Book discussion:
  • Positive reviews
  • Everyone liked it (even sympathetic to Charity)
  • Learned about polio
Post-book discussion:
  • Should we get dessert?: We had a lengthy discussion about dessert. Should we eat at Zoe’s, should we go somewhere else? Should we get crepes? (The look on Anne’s face said no). We did not get dessert.
  • Wendy’s news: Wendy has been spending lots of time with a special friend named Adam. We grilled for more information. He owns his own place, his mother runs an antique store, he travels a lot, he keeps a clean house, and he works a lot. We are psyched. Wendy was taking the next day off of work to go to Brimfield with Adam. Nice!
