Beth's 5 Year Anniversary Blog

Seek - overall it seemed that no one was too crazy about these essays although the authors ideas about the world raised some ideas worth considering. But sometimes I just couldn’t tell what his attitude toward his subject was and that made me not care - like in the essay Bikers for Jesus. Some people liked the story about the Alaskan bush pilot who crashed all the time but it was confusing to learn in another essay that the author was actually referring to himself in the third person in the pilot essay. The Lowest t Bar was another crowd favorite because it seemed like a good place to have book club meeting. We’d fit right in. Manda said the essay about American militias/ antigovernment groups was interesting because it presented a different way of thinking about the world. She briefly considered raising her child as an anarchist (Baby, don’t let the man keep you down) but she has decided against it. It was noted that this book was written before 9/11 and we wondered how this changed our views of the essays and whether the author would have become more pro or anti government. I forget what we decided. I’ll have to take notes next time.

A log of every book meeting we have had for the past five years was passed out and we’ve read a lot of books. Some people got Shadow land confused with Purple America so now we have to go back and review them.

We voted unofficially for the next book - Murder at the Leviathan. The stripper book was vetoed but Jen might read it on her own. She was already trying to pin down dates for the next meeting.

After dog sitting for a week, Rachel is seriously thinking about getting a dog so she can get to know all her neighbors. My vote is yes, get a dog.

Donna was 1/2 hour late because of the *#*!& Red Line
Paul eventually found JP Licks

At JP Licks, Anne got Grape Nut and Raisin Ice Cream. Cynthia had just seen an episode of Unwrapped that revealed Grape nuts are neither grapes nor nuts - it’s just wheat bread baked twice. Anne was distressed to learn she was eating bread ice cream. Atleast the the raisins were once grapes.

Donna gave us all tips on working the room at the MFA singles night.
